From the time Governor Phillip stepped on to Sydney's shores, clay moulds in hand, brick production in Australia has flourished. From Humble Beginnings
Brickworks Limited, the parent company of Austral Bricks is a publicly listed company on the Sydney Stock Exchange.
Brickworks Limited was formed in 1934, shortly before it purchased New South Wales State Brickworks at Homebush Bay, in Sydney.
Between 1934 and 1937 Brickworks acquired a number of brick plants in and around Sydney.

Our Brick Making Facilities
Originally established in 1907, Austral Bricks has been operating as part of Brickworks Ltd since 1945. Today, Austral Bricks' operations consist of factories throughout Australia making Austral Bricks the leading clay product manufacturer.

All of our sites are continuously upgraded and modernised to maintain production efficiency and to produce modern, fashionable products for the housing and commercial markets. High tech facilities have been installed, creating one of the largest and most efficient brick making industrial estates in the world.
Austral Bricks' extensive range of products are manufactured and tested to the highest quality. Each batch of bricks, pavers and tiles is graded at various stages of the manufacturing process and are tested in labroratories to make sure they meet strict Australian standards.

Setting High Standards
From the company's inception to the early 1980s, Austral Bricks founder William Dawes was the driving force behind the company. His extensive industry knowledge and foresight led to Austral Bricks' purchases of significant clay reserves and established plants. He set the pace with the introduction of stiff extrusion texture bricks and his development of new technology and facilities ensured Austral Bricks would always be a market leader in the building and construction industry.

Product Diversification
Having to continually meet the changing demands of today's market, Austral Bricks and associated companies (Bristile Roofing, Eureka Tiles) now manufacture a large range of clay bricks, pavers, terracotta floor tiles and roof tiles. Sold  Australia wide through a large distributor network.

Export Success
Continual product and service developments has also enabled Austral Bricks to establish a strong presence in a number of export markets. Austral Bricks' products can be seen in markets such as Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Korea, China and New Zealand. Austral Bricks export success was acknowledged with by winning the Housing Industry Association Jim Brooks Australian Export Award for manufactured products in 1999.

An Extensive Resource Base
Recognised as one of Australia's leading manufacturers of quality clay building products, Austral Bricks resources extend not only to factories and clay reserves, but also to employees. Across the entire operation, Austral has over 600? employees and a large network of sub contractors and supply companies. The variety and versatility of Austral Bricks staff ensures the ongoing commitment to produce the highest quality bricks, pavers and terracotta tiles while providing value for money and exceptional customer service.
By mining clay and shale from our own reserves, and maintaining continuing investments in new technology, Austral Bricks has managed to maintain the lowest manufacturing cost structure.
The company has a sizeable in-house transport department, running its own fleet for metropolitan deliveries and subcontracting semi-trailers for country deliveries.
