This is a tale of two McDonald’s. One is established, the other new. Both are in Auckland. And both have recently been clad with Austral Bricks Terraçade terracotta façade system. Terraçade is relatively new to New Zealand, despite being increasing widely specified in Australia. For Basim Mora of ASC Architects, who designed the new Clendon Park restaurant, this was his first exposure to the product. His initial reason for showing interest was simple: “We just liked the look.” However a closer investigation revealed Terraçade’s durability, weathertightness, low maintenance needs, and ease of installation.

“We are upgrading our restaurants,” explains Roeland Simons, McDonald’s project manager for Clendon Park. “We are spending more time, effort and money on our finishes.” The colour and texture of Terraçade is a good fit with the more colourful schemes and use of more décor-related items in the dining rooms.
